Prior to departure the operator contaced us requesting the change of date for the first part of the tour (Forbbiden city) due to, as they said, 'insufficient number of travelers'. We refused! The operator than told us that in order to keep the original departure date we need to accept the private guide for extra cost of 100 $. We didn't like it, but accepted. Luckily, our private tour guide David was a pure reward: knowledgable, punctual, helpful and very experienced. We felt informed, respected and safe with him. “Out of all the cities in China, I felt that having a tour guide is definitely a must in Beijing. Almost all the famous tourist attractions were full of people. “Our tour covered all the main attractions in Beijing over 2 days. The guide was excellent and adjusted the program as needed to deal with unexpected situations at some of the sites (e.g. switching Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City around and entering through different gates with limited wait time) and made sure our exact preferences at each attraction was taken care off. Her suggestion to start Day 2 (when we visited the Great Wall) at 7am to avoid long queues was excellent (and we did indeed the long queues).
